Inspiring co-operative enterprise through education

CPD for Scottish secondary teachers held at Strathclyde University

Secondary teachers and a few senior pupils attended this full day CPD session at Strathclyde University. Attendees were introduced to the co-operative business model and how its values and principles guide the actions of all co-operative businesses.

Emphasis was placed on the democratic and ethical nature of co-operative organisations and delegates were shown how this could translate well into interdisciplinary teaching within Curriculum for Excellence. Subject areas such as Enterprise, Sustainability and Citizenship are natural vehicles for exploring Fair-trade, ethical trading and human impact on the planet -– all issues of high importance in the Co-operative movement.

CPD session

After a delicious 2 course sit down lunch, teachers and students formed small working groups to plan how they could use the free CETS resources in their classrooms and schools to support and enhance delivery of the various topics and subjects covered, As these projects emerge and develop, we will update you on their progress.
